Yaaseen Bivins, 21, has been charged with murder among other offenses in the death of 14-year-old Nicolas Elizalde, Philadelphia police told the media during a Wednesday, Oct. 12 press conference.

Bivins was arrested on Thursday, Oct. 6, after police discovered a gun purchase receipt in a Ford Explorer captured on surveillance video fleeing the scene around 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

They say he had no authorization to buy a gun due to being a felon. Police only noted that he had a juvenile record.

Elizalde, of Havertown, and four other students were ambushed by the gunmen after leaving a football scrimmage, authorities said. Investigators say Elizalde was not the intended target.

A second suspect remains at large, and police say they are close to having a third arrest warrant. Around six suspects are believed to have been involved in the shooting.

Dayron Burney-Thorne, 16, was identified as a suspect on Tuesday, Oct. 4, and is wanted on charges of murder, attempted murder, theft, obstruction of justice, and other related offenses.

Anyone with information is asked to call 9-1-1 or contact Philadelphia police at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or text a tip to 215.686.TIPS (8477).
